今年同シリーズ30周年の節目を飾る、ベルリンを拠点とする老舗名門レーベル!K7の名シリーズ「DJ-Kicks」より、ベルリンのアンダーグラウンドテクノシーンから現れ世界的なDJユニットとして名を馳せるModeselektorによる一枚。オリジナル2曲、ツアー中のフィールドレコーディングを含む14曲収録で、IDMやベースミュージックを取り込みながら、ヒップホップ・ブレイクビーツサウンドを根底に感じさせ、ワールドミュージックファンをも取り込む懐の深さが存分に引き出されており、BronsertとSzaryの二人の嗜好の違いがミックスの中で入り混じり、相互作用を引きだしている。

Marking the 30th anniversary of the iconic DJ-Kicks series from Berlin’s storied label !K7, this edition comes from Modeselektor, the globally acclaimed duo that emerged from the city’s underground techno scene. Featuring two original tracks and fourteen in total—including field recordings captured on tour—the mix blends IDM and bass influences while grounding itself in hip-hop and breakbeat energy, all with a breadth that can even draw in fans of global music. The differing tastes of Bronsert and Szary intertwine throughout, creating a dynamic interplay that gives the mix its distinctive character.

ミュンヘンのデュオRhode & Brownによる新作。80s〜90sR&B〜ブギーインスピレーションにて、A1,2はメロウでロマンティックなサウンドにMarlena Daeによる甘美なシンガリングが甘いレイトナイトなムーディさを爆発させる。A3よりまたムードは変わり、デジタルダブなメロウレゲエナンバー、80年代エレクトロ的スクラッチにポストディスコビートサウンドなB1、ベース強めなデジダブアシッドB2と表情豊かな一枚。

The new release from Munich duo Rhode & Brown draws on 1980s–90s R&B and boogie inspirations. Opening tracks A1 and A2 offer a mellow, romantic atmosphere, with Marlena Dae’s velvety vocals amplifying their sweet, late-night moodiness. From A3 onward, the tone shifts again: a mellow digital-dub reggae piece, followed by B1, which blends ’80s-style electro scratches with post-disco beats, and B2, a bass-heavy digi-dub acid cut. A richly expressive record that moves fluidly through multiple shades and textures.

DJユニット2manydjsでも知られ、リミキサーとしても積極的に活動し、クラブシーンでの活動も行うベルギーのエレクトロ・バンド Soulwax、7年ぶりとなるスタジオアルバム。彼ら自身が「electric guitarsを一切使わないロックアルバム」と定義しており、代わりにモジュラーシンセやライブドラム、テープマシン、加工されたボーカルを駆使し、バンドが電子機器を演奏するような感覚を目指している。『All Systems Are Lying』のタイトルにあるように、フィルター、アルゴリズム、ノイズによって真実が歪められていく瀬戸際の現代社会を映し出す、歪んだ鏡のような作品と評される。

Belgian electronic band Soulwax—also known as the DJ duo 2manydjs, and active as prolific remixers and central figures in the club scene—return with their first studio album in seven years. The group describe it as “a rock album without electric guitars,” instead building its sound from modular synthesizers, live drums, tape machines, and processed vocals, aiming for the feeling of a band playing electronic hardware. As its title All Systems Are Lying suggests, the album forms a distorted mirror of contemporary society, where filters, algorithms, and noise bend and obscure the truth at every turn.

Thought Leadership, an artist based in Stockport, UK, presents a sound crafted through direct recording on a multitrack recorder housed in a terraced home. With layered guitars, pedals, synths and bass, and organic drums, the music achieves an even richer palette than on the previous work, III of Pentacles. The piece reveals a deep affection for the legacy of Factory Records and early 4AD, all while unfolding a cosmic, Balearic sense of weightless drift.

15歳の頃から作曲を始め、ビート制作の工程でジャズや映画音楽に開眼、17歳から独学で鍵盤演奏を始め、『Antiphon』でデビューを果たした新世代ロンドンジャズシーンの旗手、Alfa Mist。ピアニスト、プロデューサー、ソングライター、そしてMCとして活躍するマルチプレイヤーである彼の6枚目のスタジオアルバムである今作、復讐、許し、贖罪という重厚なテーマを基に独自のSF的世界観を創造。煌めくようなサウンドスケープに煙たさ・哀愁を内包し、シネマティックでサイケデリック、J Dilla、John Coltrane、Hans Zimmerをオールタイムフェイヴァリットに挙げる彼ならではのメロディを紡ぎだしている。

“A NIGHT AT DAV?”

1982年、Tai “Dave” Cheung(タイ “ダヴェ”・チョン)により創業されたパリの中華料理店Daveは、Helmut Newton(ヘルムート・ニュートン)、June Newton(ジューン・ニュートン)、Grace Coddington(グレース・コディントン)、Bernardo Bertolucci(ベルナルド・ベルトルッチ)、Allen Ginsberg(アレン・ギンズバーグ)、Yves Saint Laurent(イヴ・サン・ローラン)、Francis Ford Coppola(フランシス・フォード・コッポラ)どが足繁く通い、30年間に亘りパリで最もファッショナブルな店として知られた。彼の店に来るゲストは「顧客」であり、「友人」であり、常に「Complet(満席)」の札がドアに掛けられた店は実に秘匿性が高く、彼等著名人が訪れる理由の一つでもあっただろう。オーナーのDaveはその友人たち、著名人たちのポートレイトをポラロイドで撮影しており、その膨大なアーカイヴ、そして店に送られた数々の芸術作品などを掲載。
