未だにその正体や素性が不明ながら多くのファンを心を掴み続け、Thom Yorke、Four Tetとのスプリット作品、Massive Attackとのコラボレーションなどでも大きな話題を読んだWilliam BevanことBurialによる最新ダブルAトラックEP。

ヴァイナルノイズ、ゆらめくシンセ、遠くに囁くような声の断片、Burialの持ち味である幽玄な音像はそのままに、サイケデリアとアンビエントの融合、圧倒的な完成度の「Comafields」、歪んだコード進行、不明瞭なリズム、遠くに聞こえる声、「存在しなかった祝祭」のカタチを探し求めるかのような「Imaginary Festival」の2曲は、内省的な精神性と美しいノイズ・アンビエンス、エクスペリメンタルさに富んだ実にBurialらしいミステリアスなサウンドスケープ。

William Bevan, better known as Burial, remains an enigmatic figure whose true identity is still shrouded in mystery, yet he continues to captivate a global fanbase. Following highly acclaimed splits with Thom Yorke and Four Tet, as well as his collaboration with Massive Attack, he returns with a new double A-side EP.

While retaining his signature ethereal sonic palette—characterized by vinyl crackle, shimmering synths, and distant, whispered vocal fragments—this release explores a profound fusion of psychedelia and ambient. "Comafields" is a masterfully crafted piece of overwhelming depth, while "Imaginary Festival," with its warped chord progressions, blurred rhythms, and hauntingly remote voices, feels like a search for the form of a "celebration that never existed." Together, these two tracks weave a mysterious soundscape rich in introspective spirituality, beautiful noise ambience, and experimentalism—a quintessential Burial experience.

ウガンダ・カンパラから世界に新たなムーヴメントを広げたNyege Nyege Tapesより、サンパウロを拠点とする日系ブラジル人のアキラ・ウメダとロンドンのマルチインストゥルメンタリストJesse Hackett、シカゴ拠点のアーティスト、Mariano Chaveによる実験音楽コラボユニットMetal Preyersの合作である今作。ドローン、IDM、ハウスなどヴァラエティに富んだジャンルを横断しながらもダークで呪術的なムードは一貫され、アキラ・ウメダ自身が「ゴーストサウンド」と呼ぶ音のコラージュは、純粋な音のファンタジーへと誘う異文化間の旅路であり、両者のインスピレーション、妄想を交換し、歪んで変化し続けるサウンドスケープを紡ぐ1時間に及ぶポストモダン・ミックステープである。

Released via Nyege Nyege Tapes—the imprint that ignited a global movement from Kampala, Uganda—this collaboration brings together São Paulo-based Nikkei Brazilian artist Akira Umeda, London multi-instrumentalist Jesse Hackett, and Chicago-based artist Mariano Chavez.

Traversing a diverse spectrum of genres from drone and IDM to house, the project maintains a consistent mood that is both dark and ritualistic. These sound collages, which Umeda himself describes as "ghost sounds," serve as a cross-cultural odyssey into pure sonic fantasy. It is a hour-long postmodern mixtape; a weaving of distorted, ever-evolving soundscapes born from an exchange of inspirations and delusions between the artists.

アメリカの実験音楽家、詩人、マルチメディアアーティストDominick FernowによるプロジェクトVatican Shadowによる2020年リリース作品。

テクノのフォーマットを借りて政治と暴力を描くために始めた名義であるVatican Shadowの作品群の中でも高評価な一枚で、石油・中東・帝国主義・軍事介入といったテーマが説明なく音だけで掲示され、極端にミニマルなサウンドは重く鈍いキック、反復されるシーケンス、金属的なノイズ、圧迫的ともとらえられる音像は止められることのできない構造の中に巻き込まれたかのよう。生々しい緊張感、異常に広い空間使い、タイトルと音の関係性は、聞き手の感情移入を拒み、観測者としての立ち位置を提示する。

A 2020 release by Vatican Shadow, a project by American experimental musician, poet, and multimedia artist Dominick Fernow.

Vatican Shadow began as a moniker through which Fernow used the format of techno to depict politics and violence. Among the project’s body of work, this album is regarded as one of the most highly acclaimed. Themes such as oil, the Middle East, imperialism, and military intervention are presented purely through sound, without explicit explanation. The extremely minimal sound—heavy, blunt kick drums, repeating sequences, metallic noise, and an oppressive sonic image—feels as if the listener has been drawn into an unstoppable structure.

The raw tension, the unusually vast use of space, and the relationship between the titles and the sounds refuse emotional identification from the listener, instead positioning them as an observer.

“MELANIE & THE MINERS STRIKE”

イギリス人アーティスト、Victoria P. Gill(ヴィクトリア・P・ギル)による、1980年代18歳であったMELANIE(メラニー)の目を通したイギリス・リーズにおける労働者階級の若者たちをありのままの姿で写し出した群像写真集。MELANIE(メラニー)とは作者の母親であり、彼女が1984年当時撮った写真たち、サッチャー政権下で、北部の鉱山労働者のストライキがあった時代で、その時代に彼女とその友人たちは18歳になった。本書に収録されるそれらの写真たちは、なんら撮られた理由もなく、ただメラニーと仲間たちの平凡な週末が写しだされ、そこに作者と母親の友人たちとが交えた、写真にまつわる会話の断片がキャプションとしてところどころ添えられ、まさに等身大のありのままの姿が写し出されているといえよう。
